I am sorry to say that it appears that L & N have broke up. Jake and Van were fantastic in today's episode. Hopefully, they won't be apart for long!

Yes, I agree. I was disappointed that the breakup sounded so final. :gloomy

Maybe it's just me, but --yet again-- I just do not understand the motivation of Noah's character. Okay, so Luke maybe shouldn't have called the cops during the boat escape, but it is clear that he did it with Noah's best interest at heart. Is Noah so dense that he cannot see this? ... or so angry about that single incident that he cannot forgive and is willing to jeopardize the whole relationship on the basis of one incident? Either option seems out of character for Noah to me.

It seems to me that once again the writers are writing scenes with little or no understandable motivation
behind them. I understand that it is a dramatic necessity to "keep the lovers apart" and create
obstacles for them, but why not have some realistic obstacles come their way (via the PLOT), rather
than to have these sudden and mostly inexplicable eruptions of overwhelming INNER angst. These just
do not ring true to me. It seems like a cheat on the part of the writers-- as if they cannot find a
logical way to "keep the lovers apart" so they just resort to quick inner turmoil (and then the poor actors have to try to pull it off believably).

IMHO, Noah was further along in his self discovery and his maturity than to suddenly get so "confused" inwardly. He can't articulate what's wrong (which perhaps is understandable character-wise for him), but since WE don't understand it either, it makes him seem rather dopey and thick headed. The way Noah is acting it wouldn't suprise me if Luke becomes interested in that other guy from the coffee shop (and I couldn't blame him).

Having made that gripe, let me compliment ATWT on one thing: the BEAUTIFUL location work lately has been so refreshing!! I soooooo hope that it will become a regular part of the series and is not just
a "shot in the arm" for a ratings period.

One of the reasons why I love the British soaps (and why I watch mostly those) is that they feature regular and extensive "location" work (actually large backlot sets, but at least they are visually real exteriors!). These exteriors give those series a real and palpable SENSE OF PLACE which studio-bound American daytime soaps just do not have.

While I realize that CBS in New York doesn't have a backlot, I've never understood why American soaps such as ATWT do not go out and shoot some stock location exteriors of the buildings and homes in "Oakdale" and have the actors shoot various entrances and exits and drive-ups and drive-aways, in a variety of wardrobe which they later can match back at the studio. Shoot many. Shoot lots. Comings and goings, cars pulling up, people getting out, etc ........ then, over the next whole season use those as establishing shots at the beginnings of interior scenes. It would be a simple matter of matching studio wardrobe to what has already been shot.

I know that this has been done SOME, but why not more? (Being a director myself I realize that the actors hate it --- shooting whole days of entrances and exits and car pull-ups and drive-offs is really boring to do ....... but they could "deal with it" one or two shooting days per season, and it would add so much to the show).

It would give the show some badly needed "sense of place". (What does the farm really look like from the driveway? What does Lisa's shop look like --not up close as we always see it-- but from across the street and in real sunlight? What about the campus coffee shop? the hospital? the character's homes?) We crave some visual context!

Well, at least the "event" exteriors they are doing now are really nice!! Kudos to the production team for that!

And .... Here's hoping our boys are back together soon!

Best wishes,
Robert
